Keeping Fit is Not Easy
From celebrations of life to bone strenthening to muscle building... it's all related.
While my husband is solving practical, environmentally sound, and cost-reducing clean air solutions in our county, I’m dealing with life and death issues… preparing my recently deceased friend’s celebration of life slide show and exploring how to keep my loved ones and myself alive and kicking.
Keeping my loved ones and myself alive is no easy task. Yes, I walk two or three times a day, take zoom or onsite classes in stretch and strength with weights, yoga and meditation, and gyrokinesis several times a week. Diet is going well …drinking plenty of water, no gluten, no sugar, just goat or sheep dairy, usually probiotic, lots of farmers’ market veggies, protein (mostly fish, eggs, and chicken), fruit, and walnuts.
With all, there are challenges, such as how to slow down osteoporosis and to be a good fitness example for the next generation/s. I am researching osteoporosis and found some interesting resources, that I share with you now.
Hendrickson Method
To learn about strenghening my bones, I recently participated in a Hendrickson Method class taught by Amanda Wongsonegoro, at Citrine, a 2024 award-winning lifestyle boutique and holistic wellness studio.
Hendrickson Method (HM) is an advanced system of massage and manual therapy that effectively and efficiently treats acute and chronic pain. HM is relaxing to receive and promotes optimum health for patients of all ages. Source
OsteoStrong
Next, I contacted a relative in her late 80s to remind me of the workout studio that she attends once a week. She answered OsteoStrong, I checked out the website. Here’s a summary of the write up in the” Journal of Endocrine Society:”
THU425 Brief, Low-impact, High-intensity Osteogenic Loading Training Utilizing Proprietary Osteostrong Devices With Once-A-Week, 10 Minute Treatments Improves Bone Mineral Density In Women With Osteoporosis Of The Lumbar Spine. Source
Once a week ten-minute training??? To check it out, I listened to a 2019 YouTube review of “OsteoStrong, Is It a Scam?” by Dr. Lani Simpson, certified clinical densitometrist and bone health expert. In short, she questioned the research analyzing the effectiveness of the OsteoStrong method. I have not seen any recent reviews by her of this method. Though there are locations of Osteostrong studios all over the world, there are none near our home. The closest locations are 20 minutes away from dear ones, which is almost an hour away from our home.
Pain Management
Next, I listened to a 2021 YouTube video interview that Dr. Lani had with Dr. Jennifer Schneider on Pain Management.
When you need a strong medication such as an opiod, will you get addicted? Severe debilitating pain is the reason these medications should be considered, but do doctors know how to prescribe? And for whom? Over the counter pain meds - will they work? What are the long term side effects? There is an art to using medications to minimize pain, and specialist Dr. Jennifer Schneider is here to help you make informed decisions, stay educated, and be your own advocate in this complicated matter. She also shares her story regarding a very painful femur fracture and osteoporosis.

From celebrations of life to bone strenthening to muscle building to pain management... it's all related. Speaking of all related, a reader of this blog post informed me that Dr. Jennifer Schneider and I have a mutual connection, so I’ll find out more directly from her about pain management. Whether or not we are in pain now, or have been in pain, most of us will need to manage physical or emotional pain in the future.
